How can I be Prepared for my Liposuction?
To minimize your risk of complications, you should quit taking medications such as aspirin that may impact your body’s ability to heal properly. Additionally, you will need to arrange a ride home from your procedure with a friend or relative as you will not be able to drive safely.
Liposuction uses a very small tube to remove fat deposits which have not responded to lifestyle changes.
What to Expect during Liposuction?
Your treatment will be performed at our advanced surgical facility located in Tijuana, Mexico. On the day of the procedure, you will receive the ideal anesthesia for your specific case, designed to completely relax you and place you in a deep sleep. Once you are comfortable, tiny incisions will be made (no larger than half of an inch) and a small tube known as a cannula will be inserted into each incision. Your plastic surgeon will move the cannula back and forth underneath the skin to break apart fat deposits and remove the excess tissue from the deep underlying layers.
Once the fat cells have been successfully removed and desired results achieved, your surgeon will carefully close the incisions with small sutures and apply the necessary bandaging. You will then be moved into one of our comfortable recovery rooms until released to go home. The overall length of the procedure varies from patient to patient, depending on the complexity of the surgery and how many areas are being treated. However, these procedures generally average about one hour per treatment area.
What is the Recovery Period after Liposuction?
You may experience some soreness, bruising, and swelling for the first few days after surgery. It is essential that you follow your post-surgical instructions to help minimize discomfort and maintain a smooth recovery. These tips may include:
Getting adequate rest
Light walking to help prevent blood clots
Taking prescribed pain medication and antibiotics
Avoiding soaking in water such as bathtubs and Jacuzzis
Remaining hydrated
You will also be required to wear a specialized compression garment for several weeks after the procedure to facilitate proper contouring. In most cases, patients can expect to resume limited daily activity within the first week, and all other physical activity at the three-week mark. If you are undergoing multiple liposuction procedures, you should schedule them several weeks apart to minimize your risk of complications.
What are the Signs of Complications after a Liposuction?
Liposuction, like any other type of plastic surgery, does carry some degree of risk. Infection and numbness at the site, for example, can occur. Although the risk of complications is low, patients should watch out for:
Chest or leg pain
Shortness of breath
Fever
Severe pain and swelling
