Dr. Liza María Pompa González

With an impressive background in the field of medicine, Dr. Pompa González is not only a brilliant surgeon, she is a compassionate human being, with a highly professional practice and a strong sense of philanthropy, not surprisingly recognized as one of the most outstanding women of her region.

Dr. Pompa graduated at the top of her class from the Autonomous University of Baja California Medical School, earning the prestigious Merit Award for academic excellence. She later competed for a spot as a surgical resident among thousands of other applicants, obtaining the highest score in the National Surgical Residency Exam.

Her natural surgical skills and brilliant academic performance were quickly noted during her Surgery Residency at Tijuana’s General Hospital in Mexico, earning her the appointment of Chief of Surgery at a young age. As a resident, she became the first woman ever to be appointed Chief of Residents of the General Hospital. She then had the opportunity to train at the world renowned Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, as a visiting resident, perfecting new and advanced laparoscopic and bariatric surgical techniques.

Known for her extensive preparation in the surgical field, she completed her training overseas at the European Institute of Telesurgery in Strasbourg, France.

On numerous occasions, she has been designated professor of Laparoscopic Surgery Training programs, teaching novel surgical techniques and performing live exhibition surgeries.

Dr. Pompa is credited for being the first female bariatric surgeon in the world to be designated as a Surgeon of Excellence by the U.S. organization Surgical Review Corporation and now holds the advanced title of Master Bariatric Surgeon, offered by the same organization.
In 2019 she graduated with honors from the Harvard Medical School Surgical Leadership Program.

Her book, titled “How Much Does your Life Weigh?” is dedicated to people who are seeking medical help to understand and overcome excess weight or obesity.

Dr. Pompa is the founder and general director of LIMARP, which is one of the busiest weight loss surgery centers in the country. She created an unparalleled Integrative Bariatric Program that includes clinical guidelines and quality processes for patient care, which has allowed her to help thousands of people from all over the world overcome obesity in a sustainable way.

Dr. Guillermo López Espinosa

Dr. Guillermo López Espinosa

General surgeon and advanced laparoscopy

With unparalleled experience and an extensive career in laparoscopic and bariatric surgery, Dr. Guillermo López is a graduate of the Autonomous University of México, where he specialized in general surgery.

His excellent reputation has earned him positions of great relevance, which include being Director and Subdirector of the Tijuana General Hospital on several occasions.
For more than ten years he has been Dr. Pompa’s first assistant at LIMARP, acting as her “right hand” in the O.R. and providing invaluable surgical support.

Together, Dr. López and Dr. Pompa have performed thousands of procedures within the Basic and Advanced Laparoscopy Program of the Ministry of Health and the Surgical Service Program of the Tijuana General Hospital. In addition, Dr. López has been a great promoter of the state Extramural Surgery Program, performing over 5000 procedures.

Widely known in the medical community for his dedication, he holds several degrees in quality control for medical attention, patient safety and hospital certification. He is a member of the Mexican Association of General Surgery and a certified specialist in Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) by the American Heart Association.

Dr. Josué Torres Chávez

Anesthesiologist

With advanced experience in the difficult airway management of obese patients and having assisted in thousands of procedures, including gastric sleeve, gastric bypass and duodenal switch among others, Dr. Torres is our lead anesthesiologist.

He graduated medical school at the Autonomous University of Baja California, and later did his residency in anesthesia at Tijuana’s General Hospital, where he was appointed chief of anesthesiology residents during the second year of this specialty. He was appointed Anesthesiologist of Excellence in Bariatric Surgery by the U.S. based Surgical Review Corporation and is certified by the Mexican Federation of Anesthesia. He is a member of the Mexican Association of Anesthesia, the International Society of Anesthesiologists and a certified specialist in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) by the American Heart Association.
An interesting story is that during their years of residency at Tijuana’s General Hospital, Dr. Torres and Dr. Pompa were on the same night shifts. It was on one of those fateful nights that Dr. Torres gave his first anesthesia on Dr. Pompa’s first surgical patient with acute appendicitis. A special bond was created that day and as responsible and committed specialists, they have dedicated their private practice to treating bariatric patients at LIMARP.

Nurse Cuevas has been LIMARP’s and Dr. Pompa’s surgical nurse for many years, she is highly trained and experienced in surgical assistance for advanced laparoscopic and bariatric procedures and holds a Master’s degree in nursing administration.
