For Ontario residents who want to undergo this type of surgery, there is the Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP), which may cover the cost. However, this plan has several restrictions.
Strict eligibility: not all patients qualify for treatment.
Long waiting times: these can range from 2 to 5 years in Ontario.
Limited postoperative follow-up: due to high demand in the Ontario public sector.
